The Star's New E-Edition...
What's in it for you?
|
Many of you have already given our e-edition a try during our free trial period since the beginning of the year and are familiar with what it offers.
For those of you who haven't taken it for a test read — or maybe didn't find all of the little bells and whistles — let us show you what the e-edition offers.
A complete digital replica of today's edition, with all of the newspaper's sections, delivered to your computer first thing in the morning.
For those of you who subscribe to The Winchester Star through the mail, this may be a great alternative. The Saturday edition of the printed product that the postal service can't get to you until the following week, will be on your computer by 6:30 a.m. for you to enjoy. And, at a savings of nearly 40 percent for some mail delivery subscribers.
An easy-to read format.
The e-edition allows you to zoom in to articles, pictures and graphs to maximize your easy, comfortable reading. Jump to article continuations with a single click. If an article or advertisement includes an e-mail address or a Web site, click on the address or url and jump directly into your e-mail client or jump directly to a Web site.
A search function for that day's edition.
In the middle of the icon bar at the top of each page you'll find a white box with the phrase “enter search word”. Put the word(s) you want to search and click the binoculars beside it. The e-edition will search the edition and show every page on which the word appears. You can click on the page number and it will display that page. In most instance, the word will be highlighted.
A search function for each edition in 2008
The e-edition provides the most thorough search function of our 2008 editions you can access. You not only get to see the words of the story, but you see it as it appeared in the print edition, with all of the photos and graphics as well.
At the top of the initial page you'll find links for Current Issue, Back Issues, and Search Issues.
If you aren't sure of the date and page, click on Search Issues and fill out the search criteria. You can narrow the date or search the entire calendar year.
The response you get will be a list of every day the word or phrase appeared in The Winchester Star. You can then click on the page number beside it to search the exact page in the edition.
You own personal collection of back issues.
Are you one of those people who keeps a stack of newspapers handy? You never know when you might want to look back at the article you read last week. The Back Issues function gives you that stack of papers and you don't even need to find room to store them.
Return to the initial page and click on Back Issues. This brings up the ability to see each edition for the last 30 days.
